Telus to Spend $103 Million in the North

Telus CEO Darren Entwistle makes announcement in Prince George

Prince George, B.C. – Telus has announced it plans to spend $103 million dollars in Northern B.C over the next 3 years to expand 4G LTE to Prince George, connect Northern communities to broadband internet and increase internet speed and capacity in several communities.

Of that $103 million, Telus says $60 million will be spent in Prince George.

Telus hired 150 people last yearin Prince George   as it expanded its customer service centre, and plans to hire another 70 skilled people in Northern B.C. this year to offer support for it’s Optik TV.  Entwhistle says Telus is hoping to add another 5000 Prince George homes to its Optik TV service, bringing the Prince George numbers to 30,000 homes with Optik TV.

Communities to be linked to broadband include Cluculz Lake, Kitwanga , Hansard, Wet’suwet’en and Reid Lake. Wireless coverage along critical northern highways will also be extended.

At a major announcement event this morning in Prince George, Telus also announced it is launching a fund raising campaign to raise dollars for the construction of the Prince George Library’s SkyLab.
